"Read all bout it !! LA Times Claims Ownership Of Everything Their Employees Create Outside of Work !!"
In the world of employers gone wild the Los Angeles Times is demanding ownership of everything their writers come up with outside of the work environment. This has been a longstanding issue with artists in animation and toy design. Now it's creeping into journalism.
Do you think it's okay for employers to own everything you do once you're off the clock? And to use your byline, bio and likeness to market these works?
After being passed up by traditional broadcast TV for $750,000 in funding for a 20 minute animated special a group of voice actors who are called Critical Role decided to crowdfund their project on Kickstarter. The campaign was launched yesterday March 4 2019. The result? They reached their goal in just 40 minutes!!
On this the second day of their 45 day campaign they're about to go over $4.5 million through more than 33,500 backers and are still going strong with pledges coming in continuously.
Watch the video below to see what their campaign is about. Also follow along on AN's Facebook.
Recently a video has been featured on YouTube on behalf of The Animation Guild in Burbank California. The Guild is the union for the animation industry in Hollywood and Los Angeles County.
This video is very informative and I highly recommend spending a few minutes watching it. The video also highlights a some flaws in the union's thinking when it comes to how storyboard artists are integrated into production. Specifically in terms what they do it terms of the material they're provided with. Can you name the problem and offer solutions to rectify the situation? Visit AN's Facebook to engage.
