I think there comes a point where tech goes beyond itself and becomes so common place the skills that existed before the revolution come back in style. For example , testing , painting , scanning for a couple hundred a software package. So freindly anyone can use them but the only thing missing is the skill. The transition period is the ugliest part because chaos rules interface and cost. Skill is never outmoded but the markets need for that skill may wane during transition. Character animation employs an unusual group of skills combined so it is hard to be left with no tools. That may be the illusion as you learn the new "metric system" (aka digital).
