: IMAX runs from 24 FPS to 48 FPS (their website). I chatted witha couple of DP's I know, and they said that while IMAX would like you to believe that ALL of their films are shot at 48 FPS, it just isn't true. Some are, some aren't--and Fantasia 2000 wasn't--and you can't tell the difference.

Thanks for the post, Haskell. This is exactly the kind of information I was asking for. I knew Fantasia wasn't, and that's what I was commenting about: That it looked like a 24fps movie (i.e. didn't really benefit from being in an IMAX theater).

As far as telling the difference, I'm not going to say that I could just 'eyeball' a movie and tell you what frame rate it was moving at, but if you showed me clips of movies at 24 or 48, and asked which was which (i.e. as close to a side-by-side comparison as you can get), then the difference becomes obvious.

The only reason I even mention this is because friends of mine and I have run 30fps vs 60fps tests on video-games (side by side, or one right after the other), and you can see the difference.

But thanks again for posting. I appreciate it.
