: I'm curious to see what you and others have to say about another site that recently started braodcasting animation on the web.

: Check it out.

I've been following this site (and a number of others) since it went up. It sure isn't anything I'd recommend to a friend. Like a lot of TV, it isn't about the art of animation -- this stuff is essentially moving radio; all it really has to do is wiggle a little and glide around the frame while the actors are talking and, well, that's entertainment, I guess.

And, since it's the Internet and there's no government agency currently censoring the medium, the writing is all about being hip and EDGY and doing all the things you can't do or say on TV. Maybe the writers will get past this at some point and start concentrating on characters and story, and maybe when they do, there'll be some reason to make it all look a little better, both in terms of style and movement. Maybe.

I get the feeling, though, that Flash, with its cumbersome paint and drawing tools, is forcing artists to make a virtue out of its limitations, given the short production schedules involved. On the other hand, check out There's more charm and sense of surprise and discovery in this one simple interactive illustration (which is really just a sort of "coming attractions" placeholder) than in anything currently playing on icebox.
