Sometime next week, the format for the Animation Nation Message Board will change.
Once a visitor logs on to this site, they will be able to read the posted messages in the same manner that they can be read now. The change will be in the manner in which messages will be left.
In order to leave a message, a party interested in doing so will have to register first. Once you register, a random password will be emailed to you which you can change after you've logged on using the assigned password.
The purpose of this system is to discourage the kind of inflamatory rhetoric, taunting and personal insults that have become much too common on this site, especially by anonymous parties and increasingly, not so anonymous parties. You are free to leave an anonymous message if you like, but you'll have to register beforehand.
There will also be a new moderator of the message board. His name is Brian Reynolds, a gentlemen whom I have a great deal of respect for. He is poised, professional, positive, objective and has balanced judgement. He will be editing the site after the format changes. It will be at his discretion as to whether or not messages stay up. If, at his discretion, there should arise a problem with someone coming on the message board and repeatedly harrassing others, Brian will be able to block that account from leaving a message.
I wish that it didn't come down to this, but I'm not left with much of a choice. I've been approached several times by individuals who've been very upset by some of the things that've been going on here and I don't believe that the situation is going to get any better unless some sort of new policy is established. I've been very liberal about letting things go where they will and have resorted to editing messages only in extreme situations. Brian will be more aggressive about it.
Thanks to everyone who's participated in the Animation Nation experience. I especially thank you for riding out the ugliness that has marred the board as of late. Hopefully, this new system will help in getting things under control and in maintaining the integrity that this site is known for.
