Well Dave I don't think I'll be posting my name. Especially since one day I might abandon the shitty climate of Toronto for your sunny LA. I don't wish to burn any bridges before I've crossed them. I am aware that Mr. Sito probably had no control over what studios "Osmosis Jones" was farmed out to. Actually, I think that Yowza is a good choice, they picked up many of the most talented artists abandoned by Disney. The brothers who run the studio are animators themselves and treat their employees with respect. If I have any beef it's that even thought there is no Union presence in Canada I would like to see a strong and effective one in the town that is the heart of our industry. If you guys in LA can't make one work what hope is there for anywhere else.
Also, while I agree that it's unforgivable that PBS and Nelvana have completely alienated the very people that create the product that they sell. I get the sense from reading the posts on this board that the protest allowed tensions to be expressed that are about more than just the PBS/Nelvana deal. This topic has dominated the discussion for almost a month now. I don't fault people for wanting to discuss it. It's an easier target than the companies that pay your wage. Frankly, I was very affected by Charles' articles and would love to see the board swing back to defining how we will regulate our industry and careers. There is alot of work to be done and the Canadian (runaway production) issue is just the most current example of our lack of control over our own careers. If the people who participate in the Animation Nation community feel that talking about a single issue is valuable then I think that an excellent opportunity is being wasted. Finally I think that there is a very large number of animators who are not in the LA area but come to this site with common problems. It would be great to hear from some of them. Let's get a sense of what's going on the industry in a larger sense.
shit i can't believe that i feel so involved in this
