None of this is news to me, but then I work with a bunch of Canadians down here in LA, and we talk about how poor the prospects are to the north.
My impression is that the Canadian animators are feeling attacked by the criticism of the PBS-Nelvana/Cinar deal, when most of the American animators don't see Canadian animators as their enemies at all. I hear lots of bitching and complaining about everything under the sun from fellow citizens, and I've never heard anyone be critical of Canadian animators. I think you guys have it pretty crummy. You've either got to stick it out at home and fight the terrible odds you cited above, or try to get a visa to work here or elsewhere, which again requires extraordinary talent, as well as moving from your home. You have my sympathy, not my emnity. Not that I want any LA jobs to go up to Canada; I want the whole pie to get bigger so more quality animation is being done all over the world.
