I know people who are not particularly enamoured with this film, -- and others who think it's the greatest thing since individually wrapped slices of cheese.... Regardless, for whatever reason, I hadn't heard of this movie until a couple of months ago.
It took me a while to get around to seeing it. But just tonight, for the first time, I saw "Cats Don't Dance." I really enjoyed it. Maybe it's just because I live in the hollywood area .. (and I can relate to the story?) .. but I thought the animation was artful and, well, .. really ... top-notch.
(wink)
I liked the fact that the movie was poking fun at itself (suggesting the absurdity of singing-animal movies). But at the same time, it came across as a sort of spokesmovie for animation .. in general: the dreams/ambitions of the characters were ours, as if to to say, "No one takes us seriously in this town. But if we could only perform, for once -- really strut our stuff -- they would be blown away."
