wondering about the future market....

my name is chad and i'll be attending the University of Illinios in Champaign in the fall.
My field of interest is animation(3d).

After reading many of the posts, i have a few questions...

1. What is the average salary for an animator?
2. What is the high side of the salaries?
3. Is there a lot of oppurtunity to move up the chain?
4. How do the contracts work. Do you sign for a few years and then hopefully you get renewed.

I know that 3d Animation is going to be very big 4-5 years from know, and i'm just curious if the market will be in high demand for animators.
