: So Charles, what would it take to formulate an effective, union-type organization that could take this industry and run with it?
Son of a gun, Jon, I missed this message. Got caught up in things higher up the page.
Maybe the idea of a North American animator's alliance of some sort. Perhaps a confederacy of animation studios in the U.S. and Canada that shares information, helps set basic wage or production price guidlines, helps to distribute overflow production, etc. It's far fetched, but it's worth talking about. Beats the alternative of sending everything overseas. May not be realistic at this point in time, but it doesn't hurt to talk about it.
As far as the situation in LA is concerned, I think that the Union will work things out in the long run. The problems they are faced with are the problems all of us are faced with. Personally, I think a lot of progress has been made in the area of Union / non-union relations. The key is in forming a real "union". That is, everybody working together for the common good. Whether or not it happens, time will tell.
