I know it's disgusting. But... it seems to have worked for HIM.
Make a good reputation with SECRET OF NIMH, and he's in the public eye as an animation master. Now, produce any amount of crap, and the suits who were sold on your first film will dive blindly at anything else you offer them.
If that isn't the rainbow glowy gods doing it for him, nothing else would be.
