In the message that Jon left under the Back to Business thread, he mentioned that USAnimation will be including in their next version a utility which will write scenes out as a Flash animation file. Earlier in the week, I heard from someone else how 3D Studio Max was using a Flash plug in to do the same thing. Turns out that AXA is also going to enable the users of its software to output their work as a Flash file. Another company that produces high end animation software is calling their next upgrade the "Flash killer".
This appears to be the way that animation software manufacturers are going, which is great news for traditional character animation. We don't have to learn Flash in order to produce smooth streaming content for the Internet. The same software that we routinely utilize for producing broadcast animation can also be used for New Media and vice versa, at least in theory.
Great news. Significant development. We'll see what happens.
