I'm beginning to think that The Union, with its tradition for leadership, really needs to get behind this, or (if it makes them feel better) we need to get behind them.
But there has to be a new approach. I learned from a Union colleague that they have already begun taking a more progressive approach, and it is working to some extent. Let's go further. Let this Union do more than any union has ever gone, to actually save the industry. The Plan needs to be far-reaching, top-to-bottom, workable, and distinctly historical.
No doubt about it, we need unity, we need a unified voice. Let's develop a Good Plan to start with, and let everyone get behind it - don't look for a "perfect plan" that everyone argues about. Just like rough drawings, we can clean it up from there. Get it on the paper first.
These acknowledgments of artistic frailty are the beginning of true strength. You can't get better unless you know what to improve.
