: I thought that was great Mr.C . Here is the challenge. How do we stay artists, battle the forces of evil and not become slaves to the darkside ? In simple words, what will we do differently than our task masters. I was upset when I heard someone say "I don't care about anyone else here, I just want a job". I mean , what the hell is someone like that doing here ? It is exactly the kind of attitude that makes me go , ok, why should I bother. If this isn't about caring about everyone getting working, then it is about no one. I'm really tired of the "me me me" thing. If we aren't together on this then they own us one hundred percent.
That person who just wants a job will have a hard time getting one with that kind of attitude in the emerging environment. They'll have a tougher time staying employed if they manage to get one. If you don't care about what's going on here, then do yourself a big favor right now and start looking for work at Walmart or find something else to do. This industry is changing fast.
They don't own us anymore. They think they do, or maybe they want us to think that they do, but they don't. It's out of their control and it's never going to be the way it was ever again.
Did you happen to read through the latest issue of Animation Magazine? It was full of projections about the future of animation. The future of animation is all about the Internet, broadband, moderately budgeted features, uninhibited access of artists to production and distribution. The future of animation is not in the major studios. It is in all the independent studios that are popping up and generating content. The future is all about us and what we do.
There's going to be a new power structure in animation as market share will start to increase among a series of smaller studios. That's where the new jobs are going to be. That's where the cutting edge energy will be. If you don't care about what's going on in this business, if all you care about is yourself and working on a stupid show that will generate a lot of useless, pathetic artwork for your portfolio, you can have it.
You don't become a slave to the dark side when you stand in the light of truth.
