I received a call from ASIFA Hollywood today regarding two new additions to the Animation Expo which they host each year, and I thought I'd pass it along for those who may be interested in taking advantage of this.
The Animation Expo is an annual event that is being held at the Glendale Civic Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, March 3rd and 4th, 2000. The civic Auditorium is located across the street from Glendale Community College. It is a very popular event that many of the major animation studios attend, as well as numerous schools, software companies, people looking to break into the animation business and those looking to network and/or put together deals. There are many forums that take place which are of great benefit to artists, writers, producers, etc.
This year, booth space is being offered at significantly reduced rates for freelancers to exhibit their work to potential clients and to those looking to market their own projects. You can get a booth for $200 or a half booth for $125. If you've ever rented floor space at the Expo before, you know that this is a real bargain.
Invitations are being sent to development executives to come in on March 3rd and peruse the projects that are being pitched. The event is called Pitch Place 2000. If you've got some footage, artwork, a production bible or product that you'd like feedback on, it's a good way of getting someone to check it out without having to go banging on doors. ASIFA is hopeful that there will be a good turn out for this. The investment in floor space is minimal and even if you don't get a pick-up, it's a great place to be. Especially with the demand for Internet animation content.
Freelancers will have the opportunity of showing their work to a variety of potential clients without having to go through a rude, snot-nosed assistant. All in all, it will be well worth the money in my opinion. It's a much better deal for floor space than institutional exhibitors have to spend and you can rub elbows with a lot of exciting, enthusiastic people. Who knows? You may wind up meeting the man or woman of your dreams.
