: I'm SICK of hearing all this infighting. Is it just ME or are the rest of you just plain excited about the possibilities of the medium of animation?
: I can hardly STAND the way most of Hollywood treats the medium! When a film like Toy Story 2 can have more believable characters than most of the live action films this year, you all should just be PROUD. The animation industry HAS just had it's best year EVER. If not financially, then creatively. With Bug's Life, Prince of Egypt, Iron Giant, Antz, Tarzan, Mulan, and South Park stretching the limits of film in ways most live action films don't get the distribution to do, you should consider yourself lucky. Now if only a few of these films could be recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences--I would be happy. Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture, and Toy Story for Screenplay. How about ACTING for some of those frikken animators?? Or art direction? or cinematography? How's THAT for a soap box?? Each of the aforementioned films had ENORMOUS contributions of talent that get recognized within the industry (re: Annie Awards), but they deserve even MORE. The "live action" community is afraid of animation--OH GOD--"it might replace us!!" Well, if replacing Natalie Portman with Jessie the Cowgirl from Toy Story 2 is what you mean, GO FOR IT!
Oh yeah. Quadruple AMENS !!!! The joy of just being able to do this for a living goes beyond any awards or recognition. I think we are all incredibly lucky and that instead of picking sides everyone remembers that art is our common bond and that even though we are all different or do different aspects of it we are all working towards the same goal. Doing good films. Hats off to Pixar for doing what live action can never seem to do. A sequel equal to the original. Makes you proud just to be in the biz.
