I had a great conversation today with someone who is involved in selling animated programming internationally. Before I go any further, I want to let you know that I in no way initiated the topic of conversation. The comments that were made by this person were completely unsolicited.
This person has sold programming all over the world, in Brazil, South Africa, Israel, Canada, Australia, on and on. Unfortunately, a goose egg for the USA. Why, I asked. In this person's words - the poor quality of executives involved with animation for television in this country.
At first I thought this person's comments were sour grapes. But as the conversation went on, I realized that this person didn't care. They were happy with international success. Turns out that many people involved in the international distribution of animated entertainment for television secretly harbor the same opinion of American animation executives.
I guess we're not alone.
