In regards to your preference to a peripheral stance in life, I recently read an interview with a guy named Akhenaten from the black metal band Judas Iscariot. He is quoted as saying:
"There is something in me which makes me feel as if I am looking upon this world from the outside. I see how people follow the fucking herd and am disgusted. The masses have fallen for the mass-culture industry hook, line, and sinker."
