I had an interesting conversation with someone invloved in live action films the other day. I compared the typical approach to feature animation by having this person imagine every live action feature released as a musical. They quickly got the point.

Many people are anticipating the release of "Iron Giant" due in part to the fact that it has no musical interludes as one would expect. I see no reason why music in animation can't be more diverse or be utilized in a way more typical of live action film making.
