Iron Giant was around Warners Feature Animation LONG before max howard or Brad Bird.Brad did "Iron Giant" in order to retain the rights of his project "Ray Gunn" which he almost lost when Turner was "subsumed" by Time/Warner. He committed to make a cool film, and would never have given anything less than his full sincere attention. "Ray Gunn" (and several other cool projects) got lost in the merger shuffle because of the bizarre political structure in place at the same (spearheaded by the boneheaded max howard). But since Warners had a "no turn around" policy (after they put "Braveheart,""Home Alone," and "Forrest Gump" in turnaround, only to have them go on to be GIANT hits for other studios)--they held the cards. Thankully, Warners left Brad alone to make the classic "Iron Giant." Let's hope the house cleaning Warners is about to undergo (due to daly and semel leaving) won't affect the animation department much. ESPECIALLY any of Brad's upcoming projects!
