What a great post. You said it all Brian.

: There's more than enough room for everyone. Dreamworks, Warners and Bluth/Fox studios help us all. Competition is good! Do you think that there would still be a Disney animation studio today if it were not for the success of An American Tail or Land Before Time? Think about it!

: There has been more growth in animation over the last ten/fifteen years than ever before, and I don't just mean in the amount of product. Disney's product has grown up quite a bit, just compare The Little Mermaid to Tarzan and the growth is clear. Then compare what we're doing now to the early 80's product, My Little Pony, Fox and The Hound, Chipmunk Adventure, and Filmations' Pinocchio!

: It's hard to believe that those glory days were just fifteen to twenty years back. It was downright depressing. As artists, we have to realize the great gains that have been made in both television and in the movies. Heck, adults are actually saying that they watch our product and enjoy it and man, that's saying a lot!

: But as artists, it's time to push that envelope even further and not rest on our laurels.

: The hatred that some artists have directed toward Disney is probably due to the years of frustration of dealing with their product. Disney had dominated the market so much that other studios were afraid to even compete with the King of Animation, and even more afraid to break from the 'formula'. It was up to us to convince them to take a chance and do something different. It's easy to finger point and say that Bluth's the problem, but it's harder to step to the plate and actually create and sell something new. We need to stop blaming Disney, Dreamworks or Bluth for our problems and get on with it. Negativity gets us no where, Determination to do something better gets us action! This year has brought some major formula breaking movies (i.e. Prince Of Egypt, Rugrats, and soon, The Iron Giant) and it's important to build on this success. There's plenty of room for all of us, Disney, Bluth, Dreamworks, Warners, MTV, etc., but in order for this to happen, the negativity and hatred toward other studios has to stop.
