You know, you could at least come to our website and sign our guest book. Nobody gets to see those names except me.
And to put the record straight, I think I said (or at least, meant) the Canadian government - as a purely socialist government - takes better care of its film industry than our US government, which is also socialist but masquerading as a capitalist one. I believe in small government, too. I STILL believe that freedom allows us to put out a better product, and we can find ways to be competitive. I wince when our bids are rejected, then awarded to Canadian studios who have a 70 cent dollar and then get provincial "incentive" rebates on their taxes. I wish there was a way to fight this other than just lowering our prices ... but it becomes a challenge to put together new kinds of bids, new deal structures, etc. etc. I still believe in good old American ingenuity.
But between you and me, I think this country as a whole is becoming complacent. The problems in animation aren't unique to this industry. Among other things, we have to battle a get-rich-quick mentality that precludes hard work. People would rather go to Vegas and lose a grand rather than work hard to MAKE a grand. They'd rather lose two bucks buying a lottery ticket than invest some effort on the job producing a better product or service. "What's in it for me?" IS a valid question, but to answer it correctly you need to look beyond this Friday's paycheck.
Anyway, nice talkin' with ya.
