I was not personally aware of the existence of the no strike clause until I met with a Union official to discuss the April 1st meeting. In this face to face session, I asked for the Union's help. No financial assistance was requested, just help in organizing it, getting the word out and basically taking it over. I asked the Union to speak at the affair. I got nowhere due to the potential problems that the no strike clause posed. That is, a liability issue due to breach of contract.

No mention of the meeting was made in the Pegboard even though the Union was aware of the event well in advance. Fortunately, I had the assistance of several Union rank and file artists in helping to manage it and in telling others about it, but the Union itself maintained a hands off attitude.

The odd thing about this situation is that one of the intended goals of the meeting was to strengthen the Union.
