Some years ago Animation Magazine would host an annual event called the World Animation Celebration. After a long hiatus I'm happy to report that the good folks at AniMag will once again be sponsoring a major industry get together. This time around it's the World Animation and VFX Summit. It will take place in Marina Del Rey, California which is a picturesque community in Los Angeles on the Pacific shore. What does a TV addicted couch potato do when he's too lazy to get up and serve himself at the fridge? He turns to "The Super Rope Solution" naturally. Auke de Vries of the St. Joost Art Academy in Breda, Netherlands created this short film as a student. It's followed by the making of video which gives us a good insight as to how it was developed.

A touching video of a little astronaut and his dog as they enjoy a final romp in the universe as their last moments of oxygen expire. "Spacebound" was produced by 3D artist Ellen Su and animator Kyle Moy of the School of Visual Arts in New York City. There's an extended list of production credits as well of the talented individuals who contributed to the creation of the film.

I often find myself in a state of amazement contemplating the visions of animation filmmakers. Such is the case with yet another video. This one by London based Katerina Athanasopoulou. In her work "Apodemy" she uses metaphorical imagery to describe what she sees happing within Europe and in particular the distressed condition of Athens and Greek society. An animated allegory based upon Plato's description of the human soul relative to what's happening in our time.
