When I was in art school it was standard practice for illustrators to use a device called the Lucigraph to project photo reference on to a surface and trace the image, then work up the rendering.
Thanks to a new Kickstarter campaign artists can get a NeoLucida. It's based upon the same principle and a classic artist's tool. The guys who created the NeoLucida are professors. There's a crowdfunding campaign that's just underway to launch a new animation magazine called "Animatonic". It can be downloaded for free at this link. Along with Animatonic there's a second and third magazine in the works of interest to the animation community. They are "TGM" which involves mobile gaming while "Heroics" focuses upon superheroes in comics, movies, television and everywhere else they appear in media. These publication efforts are being initiated by Patrick Rijnders of The Mag Monster. There's an Indiegogo campaign in the works to help fund the effort to publish these magazines. It's a flexible funding campaign which means that monies raised will go to the publisher even if the $3000 goal is not met. The campaign lasts until June 15 2013. Consider supporting this worthwhile endeavor. Updates will be posted on the Forum topic. |
