For this exhibition, the artist continues her innovative practice of creating collages directly on the gallery walls. Semi-abstracted images of ports, in this case, those of New York and Los Angeles, raise questions about globalization and the shipping industry while presenting a highly personal approach to the landscape genre. Bianca Kolonusz-Partee regularly spends time observing, drawing and photographing the major ports and industrial environments on both coasts of the United States. She then utilizes recyclable packaging materials, much of which has passed through the ports, to create her installations. Even the colorful map pins anchoring the work to the walls suggest the notion of travel, or the distance from country of export to country of import. Intricate details combine with sprawling abstract configurations, revealing her sensibility as a former painter. Upon close inspection, specific product packaging can be identified while from a distance, panoramic views emerge. Bianca Kolonusz-Partee uses her artistic powers to bring us closer to an often-avoided subject while making it a pleasurable experience. Bianca Kolonusz-Partee was included in Project_210’s inaugural exhibition, These Three in 2008. She has had solo exhibitions at Lawrence Asher and El Nopal Press in Los Angeles, as well as spaces in San Francisco, Oakland, and Houston. She studied at Claremont Graduate University (MFA) and Mount Holyoke College (BA). Contact: Quinton Bemiller or Chuck Feesago at Project_210: 323.225.2229.
