DreamWorks is sponsoring an animation workshop this summer at Cal State University Monterrey Bay.

Advanced animation students looking to develop a character animation piece for their reel are welcome to enroll. They will be working with Actors from NYU and Dreamworks animators to develop a 15-30 second character piece.

There is scholarship money available as well and applications are due May 18.

This will be a great opportunity for students to develop an advanced piece of character animation for their reels.

Animation students will learn acting techniques from NYU prof/off broadway acting coach Orlando Patoboy (currently working with celebrities John Turturro and Diane Wiest). With these acting techniques, the students will develop a character and then work with Dreamworks animators (David Burgess and Jason Spencer – Gallsworthy to turn the acting performance into a 15-30 second advanced animation piece. Students will have a choice to animate traditionally or in Maya (student must have pre rigged character).

Toon Boom will also be training students to animate directly into the computer using a cintique tablets. Dreamworks will be visiting this workshop and are very interested in helping students develop a solid piece of character animation for their reel.

The coordinator of the program is Aubry Mintz,
Associate Professor of Art Illustration/Animation
California State University Long Beach.
