Sony's 'Hotel Transylvania' coming September 21 2012That's the word through Animation Magazine. .................. Sanmdler, Tartakovsky Check In to Sony's 'Hotel Transylvania' July 5, 2011 by Thomas J. McLean Adam Sandler will voice the lead role of Dracula in Hotel Transylvania, a 3D animated feature film directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and due for release from Sony Pictures Animation on Sept. 21, 2012. Here’s how the studio describes the feature: Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s (Sandler) lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free from meddling from the human world. But here’s a little known fact about Dracula: he is not only the Prince of Darkness; he is also a dad. Over-protective of his teenage daughter, Mavis, Dracula fabricates tales of elaborate dangers to dissuade her adventurous spirit. As a haven for Mavis, he opens the Hotel Transylvania, where his daughter and some of the world’s most famous monsters – Frankenstein and his bride, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, a family of werewolves, and more – can kick back in safety and peace. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem – but his world could come crashing down when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis. Also lending their voices to the project are Kevin James as Frank (a.k.a. Frankenstein); Fran Drescher as the bride, Eunice; David Spade as Quasimodo; Steve Buscemi and Molly Shannon as married werewolves Wayne and Wanda; Cee Lo Green as the mummy Murray; and Andy Samberg as Jonathan, a 21-year-old regular guy who becomes a guest at the hotel. Tartakovsky is best known for his work creating such hit animated series as Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars. He also recently did conceptual work and storyboards on Iron Man 2 and designed the prologue for the movie Priest. Michelle Murdocca is producing the film, with all the animation by Sony Pictures Animation. Article
Re: Sony's 'Hotel Transylvania' coming September 21 2012I remember seeing an early poster for this at the CTN Expo back in 2009(at the Sony booth). The story kind of sounds like an update of "Mad Monster Pary", doesn't it? Looking forward to seeing what the characters look like.
Re: Sony's 'Hotel Transylvania' coming September 21 2012Animation Magazine came through again on Sony's Hotel Transylvania by publishing some early character designs of Dracula.
Here's the article, authored by Mercedes Milligan who is a very talentaed character designer in her own right and whom I'm proud to say was my student at The Animation Academy when she was a teenager. ............. A Halloween Treat From 'Transylvania' October 31, 2011 by Mercedes Milligan Sony Pictures Animation has a tasty morsel for the toon town kiddies in honor of Halloween: The first character designs for Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler), star of their upcoming CG animated feature Hotel Transylvania. Due out Sept. 12, 2012, the flick focuses on Dracula who runs a lavish resort hotel for famous monsters and their families to get away from the wearisome human world. Re: Sony's 'Hotel Transylvania' coming September 21 2012Sneak peek: Sandler's animated 'Hotel Transylvania' By Bryan Alexander, USA TODAY March 17, 2012 Adam Sandler has turned undead. The Grown Ups star gives voice to Dracula and his famous fangs as he stars in the animated comedy Hotel Transylvania, opening Sept. 28. "It's refreshing to go back to the beginning of Dracula — and then have Adam Sandler put his spin on it," says director Genndy Tartakovsky. "There will be no sparkling skin. But there are a lot of jokes." The jokes come thanks to Sandler's pals who join him on the project —Grown Ups alums Kevin James (Frankenstein) and David Spade (Griffin the Invisible Man). They join a monster team of voice actors that includes Steve Buscemi (Wayne the Werewolf), Molly Shannon (Wanda the Werewolf) and Cee Lo Green (Murray the Mummy). The monsters assemble at Dracula's undead-friendly resort, Hotel Transylvania, for the coming-of-age birthday of his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez), who is turning 118. In the vampire world, that signals the time to break out from the sanctuary. "The motto of Hotel Transylvania is that it has been human-free since 1898," says Tartakovsky. "This is a place that all his friends can come without being persecuted by humans. They are just trying to live their own lives.'' But all that changes when backpacker Johnny (Andy Samberg) discovers the place and falls for Mavis. Dracula disguises Johnny as just another partying monster, called Johnnystein, and then tries to sneak him out to avoid alarming the guests. "They stumble upon a female skeleton taking a shower as they try to get out," Tartakovsky says. "Dracula is really apologetic." Producer Michelle Murdocca says Sandler was attracted to the project as the father of daughters Sadie, 5, and Sunny, 3. "It's a story of an undead dad who is overprotective, and Adam can relate to that. Even now, he's right in the thick of it." It was also monstrous fun to see Sandler work with his comedian friends, says the director. Tartakovsky encouraged the stars to do their voice work together. "I said we need that chemistry to show these monsters are a family," Tartakovsky says. "When those guys were together in a room, it was just an explosion of energy." Article
