Perhaps the very first use of stop motion animationAnother fine example of why I love YouTube and what it brings to the Internet. Check out what I discovered. It's a short film produced by Thomas Edison's movie company. Something I had no idea existed.
It's the original "Frankenstein" from 1910. That's makes it a 100 year old movie! I had no idea this even existed. It's 12 minutes 42 seconds long, and is remarkable for having what could very well be the first use of stop motion animation. It's in the scene where the monster is being created, about 3 minutes into the film.
Re: Perhaps the very first use of stop motion animationAmazing for two reasons--
1.) For what might be an initial attempt, the result appears to be pretty sophisticated. 2.) Even in the silent era, filmmakers were unafraid of being experimental.
Re: Perhaps the very first use of stop motion animationI think it's actually film ran in reverse of the puppet being burned away. The smoke is going down instead of up, and the black background can be used to hide what is controlling the puppet.
Still though, very impressive. People were probably freaked out to see that.
Re: Perhaps the very first use of stop motion animationwell stop action animation is the base of animation however if you think abou it's puttering also a form of stop action animation if that is the case it could date bac 1000's of years it was only until the invention of movie cameras and tv that it make it move with a more lively and sifosicated way thats my opinion anyways
