People are being jailed for small debts

According to this feature on MSN.com, people are being arrested for owing credit card debts as little as $250. It appears to be a trend that's growing in our country.

White collar crooks swindle others out of astronomical amounts, and the financial system needed taxpayer bailout to cover what they got away with, but now we can be pulled over by the police and booked for owing a couple of hundred bucks on a credit card.

It will be interesting (or intimidating) what form financial reform takes in the near future. Is this a last desperate grab before consumer protection laws go in effect or an indication of things to come?

Don't know, just wondering.

Question is, why is our civil servants arresting us for debt owed to corporations?
