At Walt Disney's Gravesite - December 15, 2010

Postby Charles » Wed Dec 15, 2010 12:56 pm

It was 44 years ago today, that Walt Disney passed away at Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California, across the street from his studio on December 15, 1966.

So I thought I'd take a trip to his final resting place and pay my respects.

I was there two years ago at this time of year, but not on the day of his death. This year I made it a point to make a pilgrimage on December 15.

I took some photos and will be back momentarily to share them with you.

This is Walt's grave as I found it. His body was cremated and his ashes are interred within the wall where the bronze plaque is.

Clicking on the photos will provide a better view.

A closer view of the name plate at Walt's grave.

Walt rests with his wife Lillian, and his son-in-law Robert Brown. Sharon, his daughter, her ashes were scattered.

I found nothing at Walt's grave except a single withered flower inside the container next to the name plate.

I brought along a few flowers of my own to place at his grave. Since his wife's name was Lillian, I thought some pink lilies would look nice.

Saying goodbye to a great, great man, I left Walt's grave having it look a little nicer than how I found it on this special day where his memory is honored.

I dedicated the flowers on behalf of the animation community, letting him know how much he is appreciated and beloved by all.

A poignant reminder also that tomorrow marks the first anniversary of Roy's death.

Seemed like an hour ago that I first learned of Roy Disney's death from cancer . . . years fly by for me at alarming rates . . .

Walt's grave from 2 years ago on December 8, 2008. I took this photo and posted it on the old forums.

Interesting comparison of how it looked then and now. In 2008 there were a couple of notes, one at the name plate and one in the little girl's arms, and withered floral bouquets.

This year there was nothing except the lilies I left.
