GaMERCat on Kickstarter - goal reached in 5 hours!

Postby Charles » Wed Jan 29, 2014 11:47 pm

Here we are in the heart of the capital of the international animation community in Burbank California and I'm asking myself and others as well... Who has ever heard of GaMERCat?

Turns out no one has but that hasn't stopped Samantha Whitten of Virginia Beach, Virginia from taking her property to Kickstarter and realizing her $8500 goal in just 5 hours!

GaMERCaT is an online comic that she's been maintaining since June 2011. In the 2 1/2 years she's been working on it she's developed a community of fans numerous and enthusiastic enough to out her over the top in no time at all.

Here's the GaMERCaT site:

And here's the link to her Kickstarter campaign. She's trying to raise funds to produce a plush doll of the character. With 28 days left in the 30 day campaign she already has 490 backers who've pledged $29,477.

Amazing!

With 22 days to go on an $8500 goal the GaMERCaT Campaign has raised $55,186 through 892 backers.

Not too shabby at all I'd say with plenty of time to go!

Here's a nice video dub of a GaMERCaT comic from this past Christmas. I can see how this property developed a substantial fan base. Good art and a quality concept...

Another incredible result on Kickstarter. The GaMERCaT campaign wrapped up today with a total of 1,848 backers supporting the project to the tune pf $114,983.

Keep in mind the original goal was $8,500.

With last minute pledges coming in from PayPal the final amount came in at $121,673 !

Amazing results for someone working pretty much on their own in Virginia Beach, Virginia. A far cry from the local industry here in LA.

A big congrats to Samantha Whitten on her extraordinary success! :)
