More guys are realizing what I experienced and told you about all along.
You're seeing it for yourself. Your corrupt business rep of your union. Add to it the corruption in animation media.
It's all good. There's a big big world out there beyond the animation scene that is still the animation scene.
Hopefully though this will help in encouraging vigilance and dialogue among the rank and file. Us po little animation artists that should feel lucky we have such suck ass leadership.
God bless and good luck!
Remember back in September 2008 when I was a guest panelist at a union meeting? Remember when I reported what I witnessed as to the behavior of their business rep towards guild members who had a grievance with the studios?
Recall how his flunkies spun the incident on the AN Forums? Remember the "dogs chasing the caravan" thing?
You yourself witnessed what happened at the union debate in October 2011. Did you see any report on the guild's blog other than a few lines by their business rep that completely misrepresented what really happened and what was discussed?
Well, now others are finding out what we've known all along about their union business rep and how he works.
More and more artists are realizing the rotten quality of leadership they have in their union.
In all of the entertainment industry there's no union as weak and as corrupted as what we have in animation in the form of The Animation Guild.
If you were at the Guild meeting last night you were exposed to more of it. Especially as the next election of officers is right around the corner.
How many of the members of The Animation Guild realize that their colleagues who serve on the executive board pay no union dues?
How many members of The Animation Guild realize there's an election coming up at the end of this year?
How many members of the Guild know what they have to do to be nominated or to nominate someone of their choice to run for office?
Any info on the Guild's site?
Don't think so.
Very convenient. Especially for the 3 year contract business rep who thrives on the apathy and ignorance of the Guild's membership.
The liar of a biz rep who will say and do whatever it takes to keep you guys down and dumb.
Happy to report that finally there's a movement within the membership of the Guild itself to do something about the corrupt leadership of their union. It's very satisfying to see that after all this time in the nearly 15 years that AN's been active that there's studio artists out there who are motivated enough to address the one lingering issue they've faced for longer than anyone can say at this point. Sooner or later guys you're going to rid yourselves of the jokers who've been using you. Keep at it and don't give up. That's why they've won out before. They thrive on the apathy of the community. If you keep the pressure on and rally the members you'll see things change favorably.
Good luck! With you all the way!
It's encouraging to see what can be done when enough people get fed up and start doing something about what needs to be done.
I'm experiencing the feeling of hope for the first time in years and years. Things are going to change within the union. There's a lot that's happening behind the scenes. Discoveries that are shedding a bright light on how things have worked within the corrupt leadership of the Guild. A great deal of manipulation along with the withholding of important information from the union's membership. Now that the info is being dug up and shared members are realizing just how bad it's been.
It's so bad that finally there's activity to confront the situation and make much needed and long overdo changes.
Animation artists have the power to create the union they want. Not the one they're being told to accept.
They tell you that you can't change law... IT'S A LIE.
They tell you that nothing can be done about the problems in the biz... ANOTHER LIE.
Don't believe what they tell you about what you can't do! It's all lies!
Guild members have incredible power! You have the right to build the union that you want with the bylaws that you want. You can structure your union anyway you want to structure it.
That's the law that can't be changed! The one that the prime liar doesn't want you to know about!
You can make this union into anything you want it to be! You have the freedom to do it guaranteed by IATSE.
More news ahead as things develop. It's going to be a very interesting season with elections right around the corner...
