Animation Rep/Agent

Postby Eastwood » Tue Apr 02, 2013 6:37 am

Hey all.

Long time off-and-on member and/or reader.

I am in LA this week, and I was looking at possibly meeting with LA animation representation / agents as opposed to meeting with ad agencies, animation studios, etc. I work out of the East Coast doing animation for advertising, some tv shows, and other entertainment/advertising things for the web (mobile games, online campaigns, webisode animation, etc.)

Anyone have any good recommendations or leads for me when it comes to animation reps?

FYI - many of you that have been here for many years knew me as coffeecat when I was an active poster.

I even met some people from the board several years ago at a Don Bluth Tune Up seminar in PA.

Hey there Eastwood / coffecat! Great to see you on the forums again! :)

It's very difficult to line up an agent or rep in the animation biz. They only accept referrals from clients they represent. Also they're not inclined to rep artists looking for employment. The trend for agents today is representing artists who have original content they've produced and who've experienced a level of success with it.

In other words ya gotta be somebody in animation already having made it on your own before they'll take you on as a client.

That's the latest word from a recent event involving agents/reps and managers at the Guild.

That said, Google "animation agents" and see what you can find. Here's a link that came up with a long list of agencies in entertainment in California...

One of the agencies that reps many top animation artists is the Gotham Group and they don't appear on the list. In fact they don't even have a website that takes you anywhere other than a simple homepage.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
