CGI movies...How are they doing?

Postby Greg B » Sun Mar 17, 2013 8:34 am

So for the past few years how have the CGI feature movies done? Any ratios to successes and failures? Are there too many being churned out? Which ones stood out among the pack?

I don't know Greg. I'm pretty sure CGI movies are doing very well in general. From the reports and articles I've read recently they're quite profitable if you can keep your production expenses in check. They're almost always at the top of the box office when they're released. Even "Escape From Planet Earth" came in at #1 on its opening weekend.

In the case of DreamWorks they had to let go of nearly half of their crew because of Rise of the Guardians. It was a visual masterpiece but it didn't do well enough worldwide even though it came it at more than $300 mil. Story issues mostly and certainly not the eye candy.
