Hey, I thought I would make a topic about my studies and art/animation!

I will start it off with some of my most recent life drawings. Studied from a RL model no photos. I am a bit rusty, it has almost been a year since I went to open class life drawing.

Its looking pretty good already even though you're rusty.



I think maybe if you start with squares, you can define the body masses perfectly. Just a thought, I'm just passing on crit given to me hopefully this helps.

How long are these poses Lavalle? How much time are you spending on them? Usually in figure drawing class the poses start at 30 seconds to a minute to warm up then they get longer. Two minutes, then five, then ten and eventually 20 minutes or half an hour. It would be nice to see poses that have taken more time to draw even if they're gesture drawings. You want to mix up the length of time during figure drawing sessions. Try it and see what happens.

We start out with quick 30 sec then 1 minute, gradually get to max 5 min. The life drawing I go to is an open class life drawing, so no instruction. Mostly everyone there are animators. I am starting to watch Glen Vilppu dvds, I really want to get good at life drawing. Wish I could take one of his classes!

There is another life drawing open class in town that is on a different date I have been wanting to go to again. It's on a Sunday morning. They do longer poses 10, 20min etc. Then I could get double the life drawing and improve even more!

To move to the next level with your figure drawing you need to focus on longer poses. You'll also have to study structure, form and proportions. Leave the quick sketch behind for now. Use it as a warm up exercise. Look at the time, effort and attention that great artists like Vilppu and Gnass and Huston put into their work. This is what you need to do to move forward. Slow down and focus on the subject and the quality of your work. You'll develop the skill to do stronger quick sketches as a result.

I want to do longer poses, but we only do 1min-5min. Most of everyone there are animators so we go for the quick poses. I have been wanting to go to this other life drawing class on Sundays as well, they sometimes do 20 minute poses, mostly everyone there are painters. It's just a matter of money and transportation....
