Art School or Bust

Postby Car t00n » Tue Aug 28, 2012 1:19 pm

Hi!

I've been doing some research on art schools and just art in general, I think I've finally zero'd in on what I want to do in life, animate.

So, to become a good animator and get picked up by a studio, I need to get into a good art school. And to get into a good art school, I need a portfolio that rocks.

I've been looking at some people's portfolios and its full of life drawing, so that's what I'm working on. Because right now, my life drawing isn't exactly... good.

So I'm planning I'll have some life drawing and then some rocking animations in my portfolio. But first, I need to learn how to draw the human figure.

This'll be my progress forum, please leave some comments and feedback. I want and need to get better and this is my best bet.

I started drawing real people a little while ago, here are the best I think. To see them all. http://photobucket.com/cartoonyanimator

These exercises you're doing are very good practice and just what you should be working on as you begin your education in art. You've got a fun road ahead of you. Remember to take your time and focus on the quality of your art. Good luck!

Very good! I like your walk cycles. They have more structure and are better all around. Your drawings are good too. The more you practice the more you'll improve. Keep it up. By the time you're a senior you'll be in a good place for submitting to an art school.

The stand up animation is very good. Everything else you're showing is good exercise. You know how much I stress giving your art the time it needs to make a strong impression. The more patient you are with each composition, especially at this stage of your development, the better the results. Keep it up, your progress is showing.

Car t00n,

Your post is exactly how I feel. I used to animate in my spare time & now I am retired, so I use my days creating new shorts.

This is my newest:

Do you think I would benefit from a school? I don't have all the money in the world. Enough to take a few.

Thanks everyone,
-David

PS, I posted this in the AN forum, was that wrong?
