24 Hour Animation Contest - CSULB - Sept 28-29 2012

Postby Charles » Thu Sep 13, 2012 6:30 pm

I have been running a 24 hour animation contest for the past 5 years at California State University Long Beach has been running a 24 hour animation contest for the past 5 years with excellent results and responses from their industry sponsors.

This year they would like to open up the contest to all schools who are interested.

Here are the details:

•The contest will take place on Friday September 28, 2012 at 5pm to Saturday September 29th at 5pm.

•Students should organize into teams of 5 (at least 2 animators recommended per group). Schools can have as many groups participate as they would like.

•Select one representative (teacher or student club organizer) from your school and confirm participation with Aubry Mintz
•Aubry Mintz from Cal State Long Beach will email the theme for this years contest to the representative from each participating school at 5pm Friday September 28th.

•Teams will have exactly 24 hrs. to complete a 30 second animated film based on the theme given. The films will be posted to YouTube and the link must be sent to Aubry’s email: Aubry.Mintz@csulb.edu before 5pm Saturday September 29th.

•Films will be judged by a panel of industry professionals based on:

Storytelling (10 points)
Art direction/animation (10 points) Creativity/interpretation of theme (10 points) and Level of completion (10 points)

Winners will be announced on Monday Oct. 1st and prizes will be awarded from sponsors (TBD)

This has been a great event for CSULB students and it has taught them quite a bit about working together, meeting deadlines and making creative decisions under pressure. Although it is quite a bit to do in such a short time, every year there are completed, colored films AND everyone has a lot of fun and returns for more each year.

The plan is continue this every year with the hope of expanding participants. Please send this flier out to your student/clubs and let me know if we can expect participation from your school
