The gigantic catastrophes that threaten us today are not elemental happenings of a physical or biological order, but psychic events. To a quite terrifying degree we are threatened by wars and revolutions which are nothing other than psychic epidemics. At any moment several millions of human beings may be smitten with a new madness, and then we shall have another world war or devastating revolution. Instead of being at the mercy of wild beasts, earthquakes, landslides, and inundations, modern man is battered by the elemental forces of his own psyche.
Carl Jung again:
"...the sick individual finds himself at home with all the other similarly sick individuals. The whole culture is geared to this kind of pathology. The result is that the average individual does not experience the separateness and isolation the fully schizophrenic person feels. He feels at ease among those who suffer from the same deformation; in fact, it is the full sane person who feels isolated in the insane society - and he may suffer so much from the incapacity to communicate that it is he who may become psychotic.
The larger the society or confederacy, the greater the amalgamation of collective factors - which is typical of every large organization - the more aggravated the moral and spiritual degeneration of the individual."
Insane society. That's what I see when I look at the whole thing. This world is a group of large insane societies.
A fringe example in ours, the guy who just shot a bunch of people in the Colorado movie theater (watching Batman), he's a product of our society. All those shooters are.
"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will often be lonely and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." -Unknown
Not sure who said that. Maybe someone knows.
Years ago I remember talking about the future. We were speculating as to what we can expect and what people will be like. I recall someone saying that people will be insane and they'll think that they are normal. Those who are actually in their right minds will be looked upon as insane.
More and more that's what I'm seeing in our day. The future is now.
So for all the people who feel alone in a world gone insane...don't worry, you're not the only one. There are a few others in your situation.
Here's a description of the mostly unknown aspect of our current society:
"It is perfectly possible for a man to be out of prison, and yet not free. To be under no physical constraint and yet to be a psychological captive, compelled to think, feel and act as the representatives of the national state, or of some private interest within the nation wants him to think, feel and act. The nature of psychological compulsion is such that those who act under constraint remain under the impression that they are acting on their own initiative. The victim of mind manipulation does not know that he is a victim, to him the walls of his prison are invisible and he believes himself to be free. That he is not free is apparent only to other people because his servitude is strictly objective." -Aldous Huxley
Is the ego the ghost that has arisen from the grave of the self? Where has the self gone when people merely exist as their ego? If more people don't start digging in their shadow for the self, could it be forgotten?
"He who blasphemes against the Father will be forgiven, and he who blasphemes against the Son will be forgiven, but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either on earth or in heaven" - Jesus
It would seem the self was the original holy spirit.
That's a great quote to ponder. Your take on it is excellent.
I interpret its meaning as you can offend God and all forms of God and still be redeemed spiritually, but there's a line that cannot be crossed whereby you cannot be redeemed.
Maybe that line is offending the essence of one's very essence. Like sinning against yourself and all creation. How can you spiritually advance if that which is inside of you, the very capacity to experience and exercise universal love, your very soul and that which animates you, is denied by you?
You cannot be forgiven if you are so immersed in the ego that it keeps you from doing what you're here to do as a human being. That is, to forgive and to help each other and to love like Jesus.
That's the key to sanity.
On the rare, transformative, challenging and "illegal" psychedelic experience...
A society which would deny that (psychedelic experience), is a society who's secret, or maybe not so secret, agenda is the infantilisation of its citizens. I mean, if we are not capable of dealing with these things, then who is? And are the people who made the rules, did they carefully, conscientiously, and in depth, explore these dimensions and decide they were unfit for human consumption? Or was it done more hastily, more mindlessly and with more fear. I would submit to you that it's the latter. -Terence K. McKenna
Well, don't unconscious slaves have to be thoughtless and unaware. Because once you start having a society where people are thinking critically, more intelligent and having experiences that transform their lives and teach them about what it means to be alive... the current rulers will quickly lose their jobs.
George Carlin's Final Words To The World...
George Carlin on "The American Dream".
"There's a reason education SUCKS, and it's the same reason that it will never, ever, ever be fixed. It's never going to get any better, don't look for it, be happy with what you've got. Because the owners of this country don't want that. I'm talking about the REAL owners, now. The REAL owners, the BIG WEALTHY business interests that control things and make all the important decisions -- forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. YOU DON'T. You have no choice. You have OWNERS. They OWN YOU. They own EVERYTHING. They own all the important land, they own and control the corporations; they've long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the State houses, the City Halls; they've got the judges in their back pockets, and they own all the big media companies so they control just about all the news and information you get to hear. They gotcha by the BALLS. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying -- lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want -- they want MORE for themselves and less for everybody else. But I'll tell you what they don't want. They DON'T want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that, that doesn't help them. That's against their interests. That's right. They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they're getting FUCKED by a system that threw them overboard 30 fuckin' years ago. They don't want that. You know what they want? They want OBEDIENT WORKERS. OBEDIENT WORKERS. People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork, and just dumb enough to passably accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime, and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And now they're comin' for your SOCIAL SECURITY MONEY. They want your fuckin' retirement money. They want it BACK. So they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They'll get it. They'll get it ALL from you sooner or later -- 'cuz they OWN this fuckin' place. It's a big CLUB. And YOU AIN'T IN IT. You and I are NOT IN the big club. By the way, it's the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long, beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe -- what to think -- and what to buy. The table is tilted, folks. The game is rigged. And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. Good honest hard-workin people -- white collar, blue collar -- doesn't matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard-workin people CONTINUE -- these are people of modest means -- continue to elect these RICH COCKSUCKERS who don't GIVE a f*** about them. They don't give a f*** about you, they don't GIVE A f*** ABOUT YOU. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU -- AT ALL. AT ALL. AT ALL. You know? And nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care ... that's what the owners count on, the fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that's being jammed up their assholes every day. Because the owners of this country know the truth -- it's called the American Dream ... 'cuz you have to be asleep to believe it."
