AniFest 2011 - Call for Entries

The 10th edition of International Festival of Animated Films AniFest 2011 will be held in the Czech republic spa town of Teplice from 26th April to 1st May next year. You are welcome to submitt your short, long, TV or student films as well as commercials, jingles or music videos (finished after 1st January 2009) for AniFest 2011´s competitions on www.anifest.cz from 1st October 2010. All submissions must be received by 31 December 2010, 23:59 (UTC/GMT).

We celebrate 100 years from the birth of Karel Zeman

Czech pioneer of fantastical films and visionary filmmaker Karel Zeman would turn 100 years old on 3rd November. His films like Journey to the beginning of time or A Deadly Invention belong to the history of the world cinema as the importance of Zlin master is compared to such filmmakers like Georges Méliès or George Lucas. The anniversary will be commemorated in Zeman´s native village called Ostroměř near the town of Nová Paka on 2nd November with a small celebration and presentation of a new stamp dedicated to the legendary artist. The event will be held in the Museum of Eduard Štorch and Karel Zeman with the Posters and memories exhibition that has already been installed there.

AniFest calls for projects of animated films

International Festival of Animated Films AniFest invites young filmmakers, artists, students and producers from East and Central Europe to submit their projects of short animated film to its Exchange Production Meeting.

Alois Nebel revives in Tobogang

Another animation studio, which we would like to present, is the Prague studio Tobogang (based in Bratislava), which was founded in 2004 by designer, animator and director Noro Držiak. Slovak-born (i.a. also member of the AniFest 2011 jury) made successful student films such as Ztraceny Danaus or The Great Sneezer and many TV jingles, spots, commercials and music videos. Since 2004 he is creating festival trailers for Febiofest and he also made a spot for TV programme called Kultura.cz for Czech Television channel Two. Among the music bands for which the TOBOGANG created video clips are the name Vypsaná fixa (Holka s lebkou), UDG (Kurtizána, Cowboy hiphop) or Tata Bojs (animated video projections for the Nanoalbum tour). The studio has also created several parts of the European pexeso TV series.

Lithuanian retrospective travers across Czech Republic

A unique retrospective of Lithuanian animation, screened at AniFest 2011 in Teplice, is now touring the Czech Republic and recapitulating Lithuanian animation history from 1913 to the present. The retrospective was already screened in Brno, Mělník, Třinec, Beroun, at Wolrdfest Grabštejn festival and now it´s heading to cinema Atlas in Prague (1 Nov), to České Budějovice (2 Nov), to Cvikov (5 Nov) and to Doksy (6 Nov).

Czech Fimfárum 3 is heading in 3D to the cinemas in February

February 11th is the expected date of the 3rd and the last feature sequel of the puppet animation cycle Fimfárum to be entering the Czech cinemas. Unlike the first two parts the new adaptation of Jan Werich´s poetic stories will be released in stereoscopic 3D format. The fairy tales for kids as well as for adults bring to life again the wise humour, humanity and language of well known actor and writer Jan Werich who belongs to key figures of Czech culture of 20th century.

AniFest shooting New Czech Amination contest projects

AniFest presents Czech animation in Russia

Three Russian cities will at the end of January host presentations of Czech animated production. Representatives of International festival of animated films Anifest will visit Moscow, Niznij Novgorod and Krasnojarsk in Siberia and present key works of the young generation of Czech artists born in 2002 and also the newest animated production from the years 2009 and 2010. Exposition of succesfull Czech animators in Madrid

AniFest to announce the Best Flipbook International Contest

From 3 January on begins this year´s competition for best flipbook. Single competitors as well as groups can enter their flipbooks in two categories: up to 15 years and 15 years and older. The exhibition of all flipbooks will be held during the festival and the jury composed of teachers and students of animation will choose three best flipbooks, which will be then filmed and projected during the closing ceremony. Public festival pass entitles the visitor to priority entry to all competition screenings, noncompetive screenings, seminaries and lectures, concerts and other accompanying events The accreditation is also valid for Opening and Closing Ceremony up to the capacity of the hall.

Film Professional pass is intended only for film industry workers. It includes priority entry to all competition screenings, noncompetive screenings, lectures & seminaries and the accompanying events. It also includes free entry to the Festival Club and to use the special services (info center, guest service, press center, video room). The accreditation is also valid for Opening and Closing Ceremony up to the capacity of the hall.

Among the attractions of this year festival belong extensive Latvian retrospective, Animé profile section, AniFest award-winning films and exhibition celebrating 10th anniversary of the festival or Making of… section, this time for example about Fantastic Mr.Fox. We are proud to announce that members of the selection committees will be well-known British animator Joana Quinn, big name of Latvian animation Vladimir Leschiov and legend of German animation Andreas Hykade. You´ll have a chance to meet these personages during their programs and presentations. The honorary president of the 10th AniFest is famous Czech filmmaker Michaela Pavlátová. AniFest also invites young filmmakers, artists, students and producers from East and Central Europe to submit their projects of short animated film to Exchange production forum (production meeting with international producers and pitching of new ideas) and to the promotional contest of school films from Visegrad countries.

The deadline for submitting projects to the Visegrád Exchange Production Forum is extended to 15 March 2011!

International Festival of Animated Films AniFest (26 April - 1 May 2011, held in Teplice, http://www.anifest.cz ) invites young filmmakers, artists, students and producers from East and Central Europe to submit their projects of a short animated film to Visegrád Exchange Production Forum (meeting with international producers and pitching session) or to take part at professional workshops and lectures held by international producers and film professionals.

I. SUBMITTING A PROJECT INTO THE PITCHING
You are invited to submit your project using the form bellow according to the terms for submissions and regulations. Please enclose an authorisation of publishing your materials in the database of New Animation Projects.

The AniFest 2011 pitching will be held on 28th April 2011.

Terms for submitted cartoon and animation projects:

o The animated film project must be of short métrage (up to 30 minutes) with short description, directors statement and basic idea about visual form of the film.
o At least 50 percent of the film must be shot in one of the animation techniques or multimedia forms that uses the principles of animation film.
o The film project must have a director or a producer who could represent it at the festival pitching meeting.
o Filmmakers and producers do not pay any entry fee.
o The assured pre-financement is not necessary but the project should have an estimated, realistic budget.

You can submit your project of a new film for Pitching forum by filling the application form from the end of this document and sending it to michal.prochazka@anifest.cz.
