SPOTLIGHT: Geon Studios, Mumbai, IndiaSometimes the concept of competing on an international level escapes the artists responsible for running American post houses. It's a bit scary when you take into consideration that the Russian effects house Dr. Picture can churn out quality work at least on the level of an American freelancer, yet at a fraction of the price. Even so, American effects houses have stepped up their game in the effort to be worth every dollar. But Geon, a Mumbai effects house--founded by Seemanto Roy, Barrie Osbourne (co-producer Lord of the Rings trilogy), Michael Peyser, Jon Labrie and Madhu Sudhanan--is changing the game. Again. Geon's fish-animal in full CG. An established presence in India means access to pro artists at very competitive rates. Barrie and Jon and Michael know this, and in positioning Geon to become a leading CG effects house internationally, Barrie reached out to Jim Rygiel. This summer Rygiel served as creative advisor. Geon primarily works on Bollywood shows but is branching out to the international arena with Warrior's Way, an Asian-influenced (as many action films seem to be these days) action/fantasy spectacle with an international cast. Warrior's Way will be the real showcase for Geon, even though they have able assists from Weta, Iloura, Digital Dimension amongst quite a few others. http://www.geon.in/ Anatomy of a Geon Shot (partial):
