I did this a couple months ago at the end of 2012 and I'd like to feature it again to get caught up with how many projects have been successfully funded on Kickstarter in certain categories that relate to what we do. Not every success story cuz there's too many to go through at this point but the ones that have raised funds over a certain monetary threshold. The list is comprehensive since Kickstarter began a couple of years ago with the majority being funded last year in 2012.
Let's start with comics from the bottom up.
Comics based projects...
80 over $25,000
38 over $50,000
23 over $75,000
13 over $100,000
3 over $250,000
2 over $500,000
1 over $1,000,000
The high being $1,254,120

Animated Films...
18 over $50,000
12 over $100,000
10 over $250,000
The high being $441,900

Film and Video (which includes Animated Films)..
279 over $50,000
78 over $100,000
10 over $250,000
The high being $808,341

Here's where the numbers really start to go crazy...
Games (including video and table top games)...
125 over $100,000
51 over $250,000
35 over $500,000
12 over $1,000,000
5 over $2,500,000
The high being $8,596,474 for the Ouya video game console which is the all time campaign for Kickstarter.

Total projects in the three categories of Comics, Film and Video, and Games...
484 over $25,000
442 over $50,000
216 over $100,000
64 over $250,000
38 over $500,000
13 over $1,000,000
Needless to say these are astounding figures. Almost all of these projects would never have seen the light of day if we relied on the traditional funding models of mainstream entertainment industry gatekeepers.
Did I say mainstream? The mainstream of tomorrow will not be the mainstream of yesterday friends, as long as this trend continues!
And the best part of it all is...
The creators and parties behind these projects retain ALL THE EQUITY in their projects and their companies!
Welcome to the future... hold on... the PRESENT !!!
