John K Ren and Stimpy Kickstarter

Hey guys, don't know if its been posted already but think you all might find this interesting.

Ren and Stimpy creator John K has set up a Kickstarter to help make a 10minute short with his George Liquor character. Seems like a nice idea to have a pure animation without all the executives interfering.

It is somewhat tempting to kick a few dollars his way. I kind of dig the idea of having a whole layout pack for one scene. However, I might end up getting the one scene that is a foot in length and has a single held drawing and a color card for a background.

I suspect that, since they are doing everything in Harmony, and the budget is pretty low, they are planning on sending it overseas to somewhere like Rough Draft for animation. To produce 10 minutes of animation in North America would push the cost closer to $500,000 or more. Whatever money is leftover after the animation will probably go toward sound design, music, and marketing.

Updating some of the Kickstarter news on the forums, John K did o k with his campaign this past August. The final tally is $136,723 pledged of $110,000 goal from 3,562 backers.
