Gary Trousdale at The Animation Academy - Jan 18 '11

I kept this a low profile event since it was intended for students at the Academy in Burbank.

Last week on January 18, 2011, the day before the 13th anniversary of our school, we had the great honor of welcoming Gary Trousdale. A genius of animation, he co-directed Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", "Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Atlantis".

He is currently at DreamWorks, where all the very best in the local feature film industry seem to be migrating.

To call this an educational experience is almost an understatement. This man was a treasure trove of information, both historically and artistically. Having him in our presence was one thing, but watching the sequences he directed and hearing his words of knowledge and wisdom about animation was a treat we didn't quite anticipate.

I'll follow up with more photos and updates.

Gary Trousdale's appearance and presentation at the Academy was certainly among the most significant events the school has hosted in its 13 year history.

Here he is addressing our students at the beginning of the evening. By the time of his screenings, the back of the room would fill up with even more students and guests.

Here's a gem of a photo, friends.

That's the director of Walt Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", watching a sequence of his from the movie.

Gary's film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1992.

Everyone was transfixed by the footage they saw. We were seeing the work of a great animation mind in the form of Mr. Trousdale.

If we ever have another opportunity to host Gary Trousdale, it won't be soon enough.

Thank you Gary for making this event a very special occasion.
