Yet another reason to love YouTube. More animated treasure to enjoy.

Wonder how many folks out there remember the old Hamms Beer commercials with the Hamms bear. They ran for many years and even though we were way too young to drink beer, we always enjoyed watching the cartoons and singing along withe the song.

Here's an early example.

I loved these commercials and I think they played an inspirational role in my career choice later in life.

Rocky Marciano and the Hamms Bear get down to it in a boxing match that isn't much of a match in this live action / animated commercial.

As the Hamms Bear commercials developed, additional characters were introduced in different settings. Here they are enjoying a pie fight in a silent film screening.

The Hamms Bear had a long run. From the early 1950s into the 80s. The Hamms brewery in Minnesota used the character very successfully. If you grew up in the Chicago area or thereabouts in the Midwest, the animated Hamms Bear commercials were part of everyday life. Especially if you were a baseball fan as Hamms was an official sponsor of both the Chicago Cubs and the White Sox.

Eventually the commercials started to be produced in color and involved even more characters.

Here's a few examples.

The sound in this video is faint, but you'll get the idea as the Hamms Bear tries skydiving.

In this commercial, he bumbles through his at bat in a baseball game.

And to finish up the presentation, the Hamms bear can be seen in several clips from his later color cartoons along with a homemade soundtrack by the person who uploaded it on YouTube.

It sure would be great to see the Hamms Bear come back again in animation. Who knows, maybe the company will consider reviving the character once again, perhaps in CG.

It was great growing up to these commercials.
