Registering for the AN Forums - Important Update

Postby Charles » Fri Jan 21, 2011 10:00 am

Hi everyone.

If you're considering registration for the AnimationNation Forums please keep the following in mind.

AN has been dedicated to a troll free environment for many years. We've lead the way within the animation community in this regard and we are absolutely committed to ensuring a professional environment appropriate for our members and the animation community at large.

Lately, there's been new technology that has enabled spammers, in particular through their use of spam-bots, to automatically open accounts on Internet forums that can lead to malicious activity and publication. Spam-bot technology has gotten to the point where it can even get around traditional blocks such as entering random letters and numbers exhibited through the registration process.

We've also learned that spammers hire teams of people to find popular forums and register when the spam-bots can't get through.

These guys are relentless in the pursuit of wasting their time. New accounts are manually cleared on AN and if we don't have sufficient identification from a prospective member, the account will simply not be cleared.

You have to prove who you are in order to be cleared for AN. If we don't have enough info regarding the verification of your identity, especially if there isn't a supporting website or blog, the account will not be cleared and many times, without notice to the applicant.

Spam-bot registration is a minor annoyance to us, but that's about it. What it does to registration is that it forces us to be even more diligent in screening submitted accounts. We've added some extra measures in the registration process recently. Unfortunately, it makes the registration process a little more involved for prospective members, but it's a very small price to pay to keep the forums stable.

So if you're interested in joining AnimationNation through a membership, please keep this in mind. We need to know who you are, plain and simple. Ambiguity will not do it. If you don't work with us, there's nothing we can do on our end to facilitate your account.

Thanks for following AN folks.

If you do have any trouble registering you can always contact us by going to the Contact page which is up on the top menu.

Registering now is still an easy process, and maybe even slightly educational for some people. Let us know if you have any problems, concerns, questions or suggestions.
