"Peabody and Sherman" on the way in 2014Word is that DreamWorks has a "Mr. Peabody and Sherman" movie in the pipeline. Due out in 2014, it'll feature the voice of Robert Downey Jr in the lead role of Mr. Peabody.
For those that aren't familiar with the iconic series that ran as part of Jay Ward's "Rocky and Bullwinkle Show" from the late 1950s, view the video and you'll see an episode of Peabody's Improbable History". In this entry, the time traveling duo take a trip in the Way Back Machine and encounter Geronimo.
Re: "Peabody and Sherman" on the way in 2014Here's another episode of Peabody and Sherman. This time they travel back to visit Robin Hood. Unfortunately, the cartoon is cut off before it ends, which is really too bad. It's one of the better ones, but it'll give you a further idea of how the series was structured and the humor behind it.
It'll be interesting to see how DreamWorks will adapt this property to a CG feature film.
Re: "Peabody and Sherman" on the way in 2014There's news today about this upcoming DreamWorks feature from our friends at Animation Magazine...
............... Burrell and Charles Cast as Mr. Peabody and Sherman by Ramin Zahed March 19, 2012 DreamWorks Animation’s feature adaptation of Jay Ward’s beloved series Mr. Peabody & Sherman has found its leads in Ty Burrell (Modern Family) and Max Charles (The Amazing Spider-Man). Set for a March 14, 2014 release, the 3-D movie will be directed by Rob Minkoff (The Lion King). With a script by Craig Wright (Six Feet Under) the film centers on Mr. Peabody, describes as the world’s smartest person, who happens to be a dog, and his “pet” boy Sherman who uses their time-traveling machine. As a result events in history spiral out of control to disastrous and comical results. It’s up to this most unexpected of father-son teams to somehow put things back on track before the space-time continuum is irreparably destroyed. Alex Schwartz, who previously served as the head of development at DWA, will produce with Denise Cascino (Shrek the Third). Bullwinkle Studios’ Tiffany Ward and Classic Media’s Eric Ellenbogen will exec produce with Jason Clark (Stuart Little). “The brilliantly comedic and paternal sensibilities of Ty Burrell make him ideal for the role of the beloved Mr. Peabody, and we are thrilled that he will join Max Charles as the leads of Mr. Peabody and Sherman,” said Bill Damaschke, DreamWorks Animation’s CCO.
