Buffalo Business First By Alissa Kline January 6, 2012 Daemen College Introduced a new bachelor's degree in animation this fall and now the Amherst institution is unveiling the space where the fine arts program is based. The International Center for Excellence in Animation is located in Buffalo's Tri-Main Center at 2495 Main St. The 17,000-square-foot space - equipped with five studios, three editing rooms a library and an 80-seat screening room - will open its doors to visitors from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 7, the college announced this week. Animator Scott Holmes , whose credits include work on films such as Lord of the Rings and Stuart Little , has been hired as the college's academic director of animation. He will begin his new job in February. The new program is co-located with 3-D animation firm IBC Digital Co. The partnership is intended to "support the growth of the animation industry" in Western New York by providing career opportunities for graduates, Daemen President Edwin Clausen said. This past fall, he outlined plans to bring students and faculty from China, Mongolia and Mexico to Daemen to participate in the program and work alongside Daemen students, who in turn would be able to intern overseas in the animation field.
