What would the Venus de Milo look like in real life?

Postby Charles » Fri Apr 22, 2011 1:06 am

I've always wondered what ancient figurative sculptures would like in reality. I've had this idea for a long time, to touch up photos of some of these sculptures and see for myself.

I finally got around to trying it out by pulling up a nice shot of one of the most famous sculptures in the world, the Venus de Milo.

Here's what she looks like in stone...

And here's what she would look like in the real world if she were a fair skinned, light haired blue eyed lady.

What a difference... She lives!

This was the standard of beauty in archaic times, and she would do very well in our own time as well I'd say.

What would Apollo look like in real life?

Postby Charles » Thu Apr 28, 2011 12:04 am

This is turning out to be a very interesting experiment.

I was so intrigued with the results of adding a flesh and blood real life aspect to the Venus, that I thought I'd try it on the statue of Apollo from the Temple of Zeus at Olympia.

Here's the untouched photo of the statue...

And here's what Apollo would look like as a blondish light haired young Caucasian man with blue gray eyes...

As Mr. Spock would say, Fascinating Captain.

This is a bust of Zeus at the Vatican Museum. It's a Roman copy of the Greek original, which has been lost since antiquity. Commonly named Zeus Ostricoli. I saw this statue when I was in Rome in the 90s.

And here's the king of the gods as he would look with dark hair and brown eyes...

What would Julius Ceasar look like in real life?

Postby Charles » Thu Apr 28, 2011 9:31 pm

This is the sculpted likeness of Julius Ceasar. It's in the Vatican Museum in Rome. It is considered the most accurate representation of what he actually looked like. I've seen this statue with my own eyes.
