Here's a great example of how Kickstarter was used to finance a project.

This spring, journalist Ted Rall used Kickstarter to fund a daring reporting trip to Afghanistan.

He raised more than $25,000.

Rall arrived last week after months of preparation.

He's been sharing cartoon updates each day chronicling the journey.
